Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: April 2009

With Michelle Obama back in the US, Carla Bruni no doubt breathed a sigh of relief not have to share her ‘First Lady of Fashion’ title.

You can just imagine Carla saying, “here we go again”, as she arrived at a lunch yesterday with Princess Letizia of Spain looking drop dead gorgeous.

Carla arrived wearing a very conservative navy Christian Dior dress, with Louboutin kitten heels (aaaargghh), whereas Princess Letizia, arrived wearing eggplant tiered dress by Spanish designer Felipe Varela, with lust worthy lilac croc heels…proper heels, with a platform and everything.

Carla looks appropriate, and appears to have done her best to not outshine her host, but am I alone in thinking she has lost her sparkle, or has the competition just got that much better?

Carla used to wow me. Now, not so much.

Lucy Liu was one of the many stylish stars, who turned arrived at the Alberta Ferretti LA store opening last November.

She looked divine in one of the stand out pieces from the Spring 2009 collection, wearing a Alberta Ferretti fringed shift dress.

The teal fringed cocktail dress, has a polka dotted satin layer underneath, a fringed layer.

Lucy added more detail to her dress, with jeweled embellishments on the shoulders, and a black waist belt. Her look was complete with a Roger Vivier clutch, and tan platform heels.

You can buy this dress from the Net-A-Porter.com US site for $1,375, or the international site for £645/€840.

Lynn Collins plays Hugh Jackman’s love interest in the new film X Men Origins: Wolverine, which had a it’s US premiere in Arizona this week.

I didn’t know who Lynn was before this premiere, but she will definitely stick in my memory after wearing this stunning canary yellow satin Malandrino Resort 2009 dress, as I love the colour and adore the neckline

Much like Zoe Saldana on her Star Trek promotion, Lynn is the only woman, so the way to stand out was by wearing this traffic-stopping, summer fresh, figure-hugging dress, which she teamed with chunky heels with a pattern platform, and a chunky bangle.

My only criticism is the her feet seem to have over shot her heels.

Camila Alves sold the limelight from her partner Matthew McConaughey, as they walked the red carpet last night for his movie premiere.

She wore a very daring plunging nude maxi dress, which was covered paillettes of seaweed green and burnt orange.

Jennifer Garner made a post-baby return to the red carpet last night.

She dazzled in a draped black Rachel Roy gown, which she wore with multiple gold bangle, a gold clutch and a jade necklace.

Simply gorgeous.

You would be forgiven for thinking Camille Guaty fell out of a pharmacy, but her mini dress is actually covered in many multi-coloured beads.

Très uncomfortable to sit in I would imagine.

I really like this. It’s something different and fun to see on the red carpet.

Garcelle Beauvais always looks amazing.

Her two-tone Black Halo dress, with matching red accessories, is so adorable. I want this look.

Emma Stone punched up her black strapless dress, with a cute Miu Miu satin bow necklace, and some sexy strappy sandals.

Michael Kors invited many supermodels to the launch party of his new Bond Street Flagship London store, whilst they all looked fabulous in his clothes.

Can you believe Yasmin le Bon is old enough to have such a 19 year old daughter?

They look more like sisters.

Amber Le Bon is currently the face of lingerie brand Myla. She towered over her supermodel mother wearing a turquoise mini dress, under a grey oversized blazer. Her accessories don’t quite work for me, but she looks gorgeous all the same.

Yasmin on the other hand was head-to-toe perfection. She sparkled in her gorgeous Caribbean blue Michael Kors skirt, black belted top, yellow clutch and black point pumps.

Yasmin’s fellow supermodels were there.

Astrid Munoz had an almost identical look to Yasmin, as she wore the same skirt Michael Kors skirt, but in a coral colour, and she wore a black sleeveless top which she wore with a red belt.

Eva Herzigova opted for black and gold, head to toe. What really stood out were her gold sequined pants. A black Jimmy Choo clutch complete the look.

Erin O’Connor looks très chic in her black dress covered in gold paillettes. She wore her dress with leggings and an orange clutch.

I love Sarah Jessica Parker’s Narciso Rodriguez dress, and her fuschia pink Christian Louboutin Very Galaxy pumps.

The spaghetti strapped dress, is far more interesting than the cutesy vintage dress she wore recently.

What I don’t like is the necklace. It seems so unnecessary on a dress that already has so much detail, with the print, and the sequin panel.

I also really hate her hair, as it’s so uncharacteristically messy. A Carrie-esqe slick back bun would have worked so much better here.

Sanaa Lathan makes a quiet impact on the red carpet, but she’s always consistently and effortlessly gorgeous, and last night was not exception.

She took to the red carpet wearing a floaty white silk chiffon v-neck Tadashi Shoji Fall 2009 dress, with a full skirt. The dress was accented with a black velvet belt, which she complimented with a black Roger Vivier clutch, and black peep-toes.

Maybe the wig got a bit too itchy, as Kim Kardashian returned to her natural raven locks, for which I’m very grateful. Her faux Beyonce look was just wasn’t working for me.

The TV star looks fabulous in a black strapless jumpsuit, with matching accessories, an outstanding gold chocker and red nails.
