Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: April 2009

Dasha Zhukova, the co-founder of fashion label Kova & T, and the new Editor-in-Chief of Pop magazine, looked stunning, as usual, at this event.

The sultry brunette wore a white and lilac Rodarte Spring 2009 halter neck dress, with metallic Louboutin’s.

I must say I prefer the look with the cropped leather jacket below, but she does have the style and grace to pull off such an overpowering dress.

Unlike the last time Julia Restoin-Roitfeld wore a Balmain mini dress, she opted out of wearing tights, but that’s probably because this Spring 2009 dress is longer.

Like in Lucy Liu’s Vogue China editorial, Julia didn’t wear the runway belt, which quite frankly goes against the dress.

I love the hot pink colour, the embellishments between the criss-cross details, and the sexy silhouette this dress gives her, but I really dislike the Miu Miu heels.

They feel so clumsy with this outstanding dress. The dress deserved better.

Boutique owner Aizel Trudel, wore that stunning green sequined Balmain knock-out dress we first saw on Jennifer Connelly at the He’s Just Not That Into You LA premiere.

Thankfully her tights are sheer. Opaque tights would have killed this look.

When I posted Miley Cyrus’ Teen Vogue editorial, a lot of you found it very contrived. Mostly because we aren’t so used to seeing Miley as she is – a teenager.

Miley wore a figure hugging, one-shouldered Missoni Resort 2009 mini dress, to the Nashville screening of her movie Hannah Montana last night, totally contradicting what Teen Vogue were trying to achieve..

Miley is always on that very fine line of age appropriateness. If I was her mother, I would have told her to change.

Cute dress though.

Always on the right side of age appropriateness is Taylor Swift.

The singer often wears big names like Naeem Khan and Badgley Mischka, but on this occasion she wore a cute white French Connection Garden dress.

The sleeveless shift dress has a floral embroidered, sequined and beaded detail on the bodice, waist and hem.

The look was complete with her trademark curls, and metallic peep-toes.

I love this dress so much, I have to buy it. You can too, from French Connection for £160/$248.

Now that Awards season is over, Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis, and Freida Pinto, have all temporarily disappeared from the red carpet.

Freida made the biggest impact, and now you can shop two of her best looks from her amazing explosion onto the red carpet.

At the 14th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, she dazzled wearing a mint green Grecian-inspired Zac Posen Baby jersey draped dress.

The backless dress, was in a fresh spring colour, which made her stand out from the other actresses.

Bring out your inner goddess, by buying this dress from Net-A-Porter’s US site for $2,920, or the international site for £1,810/€2,221.23.

Freida continued to dazzle us on her awards circuit tour, when she attended the 61st Annual Directors Guild of America Awards ceremony wearing another Zac Posen dress.

This Zac Posen lame asymmetric dress really sealed her star status.

She wore her dress with heels and a clutch by Jimmy Choo, to show-off her effortless style.

Embrace yours with this sexy copper one-shoulder dress, by purchasing it from Net-A-Porter’s US site for $3,980, and the international site for £2,460/€3,018.91.

Both dresses are from Zac Posen’s Spring 2009 collection.

We miss you Freida, come back soon.

Both Rihanna and Victoria Beckham are developing a huge love for Balmain.

We’ve seen them both in various Balmain pieces, but now they have both worn this Balmain Leather military jacket.

Rihanna wore it hers to dinner at Nobu LA with friends, whereas Victoria was first spotted wearing the jacket when she made her way to Wembley Stadium, to see her husband play for England against Ukraine.

Victoria look feels less forced. You can tell Rihanna thought about this look waaayyy too much, so Victoria wins this for me.

Aside from the Balmain Leather military jacket ($7,045), they have in common, you can shop both these ladies closets including:

Rihanna’s black Citizens of Humanity Avedon skinny leg jeans $185, and her Balmain studded crystal sandals (€1,475).

You can also shop Victoria’s Jimmy Choo Carolina clutch (£779), and her Christian Louboutin Delic heels ($660).

Mischa Barton was one of the many stars that attended Matthew Williamson boutique opening party in New York during Fashion Week.

It wasn’t a surprise to see the sometime actress, sometime model, sometime designer, at this event, as she has long been faithful to Matthew Williamson, and often seen in his clothes.

For his special night she opted for a Mosaic sequined dress.

This bedazzling mosaic sequin sheath dress will make you a modern day flapper girl, if you pair it with a metallic t-bar heels, and long beads. You can buy it from Net-A-Porter’s international site £1,463/€1,875.

I was so happy to see Rachel McAdams on the cover of Marie Claire US.

Not only because she looks so beautiful on the cover, but also because she’s wearing a gorgeous orange Sophia Kokosalaki dress. I really hoped to see this collection on the red carpet, but I guess for now, I’m happy to see it in print.

Instead of a standard type of interview, which would have included her talking about her upcoming film, State of Play, Rachel joined the magazine’s book club, discussing the novel Prodigal Summer.

She said “I absolutely fell in love with this book. I don’t think I got out of bed for three days.”

The magazine hits newsstand April 14.
