Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: April 2009

We haven’t even had a chance to purchase the Matthew Williamson for H&M collection, as it doesn’t go on sale until April 23, but celebrities are already wearing the same pieces, which is strange considering the many pieces to chose from.

Within the space of 3 days, both Katy Perry and Nicky Hilton have arrived at events wearing the same blue 3/4 length sleeved mini dress, with a lavish peacock print.

Katy wore it first to the Paper Magazine’s The Beautiful People party in New York on Thursday, whereas Nicky wore the same dress on Saturday night, to hosted a party at Prive in Las Vegas.

Regular readers would have taken one look at this post, and known who I was going to give this win to, and I will not disappoint you.

Nicky wins, despite not liking her hair, but as she went tight-less, and wore a fab pair of blue Louboutin heels, so it was a foregone conclusion.

Audrey Tautou, in her cute floral Chanel strapless dress, was your overall favourite this week.

She was the epitome of effortless chic, wearing her dress with her pixie crop, leather jacket, and Sergio Rossi sandals.

This cute Rodarte dress put Dasha Zhukova firmly on the fashionista map. I had heard a lot about her, but mostly as the girlfriend of a Russian billionaire.

I was most impressed at how Dasha pulled off this look without the draped,two-tone, cut-out dress wearing her.

Her look is effortless, and laid back with minimal make-up, and an unfussy updo.

I loved how both women dressed their looks with cropped leather jackets.

Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams clearly knows how to work the red carpet. But she also knows how to give us that wow factor in her editorials.

I was blown away when I saw the May 2009 cover of W magazine, with Amy wearing Marc Jacobs. She always gives us really dynamic editorials, that brings out a side to her we have not yet seen on screen.

Here are some extracts from her interview:

On being nominated for an Oscar: “I just was so reflective the whole evening on how I came to be sitting in that room. At one point my fiancé was like, ‘You feel distant.’ And I said, ‘I am! I can’t even talk to you!’ I was there at the Oscars thinking, ‘What if I never left the Gap?’”

On planning her upcoming wedding: “I have a reputation as a poor planner, so expectations are pretty low. When I have people to my house for dinner and tell them it’s casual, they think that means don’t wear high heels, but I mean, ‘You’ll be getting your own forks out of the drawer.’”

On looking young: “I ordered a glass of champagne on the plane today, and the flight attendant asked, ‘Are you old enough to drink?’” I was like, ‘I’m old enough to worry about being infertile, so yes!’’

On trying to be cool in high school: “I’d hated school. The people were indifferent toward me, and that’s the worst thing in my mind. We were defined by the clothes we bought at the mall. If I didn’t get things on clearance, I wasn’t getting them. I would make fake Guess jeans by buying a cheaper brand with a triangle label and then cutting it off so you could still see the triangle outline. It’s so sad that I did that! But I really wanted to be one of those girls.”

The rest of her editorial was shot in a diner, which adds a very retro feel to the shoot which was captured by Craig McDean.

Katy Perry is now the second celebrity to get us excited about the Matthew Williamson for H&M collection, which arrives in selected stores later this month.

She attended the party for Paper Magazine’s The Beautiful People in New York last night wearing blue 3/4 sleeves satin dress, which had a brightly coloured peacock feather print.

She wore the dress with black tights *shudders*, silver peep-toes, and cute pink Lulu Guinness metallic lips shaped clutch.

This was not on my original wish list, but I do really love the peacock print, and the sequined detail on the hem of the sleeves.
