Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: April 2009

The most coveted shoes of the year – the Yves Saint Laurent caged heels – have finally landed on the virtual sleeves at Net-A-Porter.

They have 2 styles.

The Yves Saint Laurent Cage ankle boot £730/€890, and the Yves Saint Laurent Cage strappy sandal for £820/€995.

Both are in navy, and both will sell out soon, so place your orders ladies.

Drew Barrymore took a style step back in time last night, channeling old school Hollywood glamour, for the long-awaited premiere of Grey Gardens.

She glistened wearing in a floor length Alberta Ferretti nude gown, adorned with thousands of crystal beads.

The finishing touches are what really made her shine in this look.

I loved the marcel waves, and the side swept pin curls topped off with a netted flower hair piece. The bejeweled Roger Vivier clutch perfectly complimented her stunning gown.

At the after-party Drew wore a fur stole, which really made me fall even more in love with this look.

The berry lip really pops. She is the only person to make me swoon this week.

Jeanne Tripplehorn opted for a navy Carolina Herrera Resort 2009 one-shouldered gown, with white polka dots.

Her sophisticated look was complete with a white box clutch.

Jessica Lange’s grey J. Mendel gown, with cap sleeves, and an embroidered empire-waist was stunning. The actress, who is not a fan of walking the red carpet, really glowed.

Speaking of glowing, model Selita Ebanks stood out in this highlighter pink fitted RM by Roland Mouret dress.

I love the dress, and the snake skin Louboutin pumps, but I’m not crazy about her Subversive necklace.

Kristin Scott Thomas graced the red carpet at the BAFTA Awards in London looking exquisite, wearing a YSL strapless gown. The gown had a black bejeweled bodice, with a cobalt blue silk skirt and instantly lit up the red carpet.

The actress braved the rain, accessorizing her dress with a black pashmina, and a gold trimmed YSL box clutch.

I thought this gown couldn’t become anymore breath-taking until Diane Kruger wore it to the Metropolitan Opera’s 125th Anniversary Gala last month.

Diane knew she was wearing a gem of a gown, so she kept her accessories to a bare minimum.

I truly believe Diane really shone in this gown, so she wins for me.

Yesterday Shin Min Ah, attended the press conference for her new movie, Sisters on the Road in Seoul.

Just in case you haven’t had enough of Balmain this week, the gorgeous actress was head-to-toe in a modified Balmain look.

Her blouse was printed, but typically Balmain with the sculpted shoulders. Her skirt was shorten, from the runway, plus the satin panel was twisted to the side, with the zip centered.

I love how she’s interpreted this look to be more individual, without losing any of its essence. I don’t have to remind you how devastated I was when Amy Adams wore a deflated Giambattista Valli dress.

Shin Min Ah’s look was completed with Balmain studded strappy sandals created by Giuseppe Zanotti.

You can buy these from Net-A-Porter’s US site for $1,195, or the international site for £675/€828.

Many regular readers know me so well, but I think I know a lot of you regular commenter’s too.

I will guess some of you: David, T, Leo, Robbie and Whitestroke, will hate this, but Zoe aka drinksupfashion, and maybe Freida Fan will love it.

There is always a great fashion debate when I comes to Beyonce, and I’m sure her wearing this Balmain Crystal-embellished canvas jacket from the Spring 2009 collection, will prove no different.

I personally love it, she wears it well, and most importantly she doesn’t try to over dress it like Rihanna would.

Rihanna would have worn the studded heels, and ripped jeans with this look, just to force down our throats how ‘fashionable’ and ‘edgy’ she is.

Beyonce wore this jacket when she enjoyed a romantic evening with her husband in New York last night, whilst carrying a Vera Wang bag.

The black cotton blazer has jeweled Seargeant Pepper detailing, a metal and crystal detailing on the collar, shoulders, cuffs and on the front.

What I love are the classic military asymmetrical front closures with heavy jeweled detailing, and of course the sculpted shoulders.

Somethings got me wishing Michael Jackson would have worn this jacket first. It has his name written all over it.

You can buy this extravagant jacket from Net-A-Porter’s US site for $11,410.

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester appears in the latest New York Times Magazine, in a vibrant editorial entitled, The Girl with Kaleidoscope Pants, shot by Terry Richardson.

The clothes in the editorial have bold colours, geometric prints, and some 80s silhouettes, but as usual I hate the make-up. Why are her eyes always so heavy?

Here are some extracts from her interview:

On her personal style influencing what Blair wears on the show: “Not at all. If anything, it’s the opposite. Her style is a little expensive for my taste, but it loudly communicates that she is who she is and that she does what she does. I find that admirable. And she’s always dressed appropriately, which I can’t always say about myself.”

On doing movies: “Well, first I’m going on a much-deserved vacation. Then I’m starting work on a comedy called Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey. I play the babysitter and they go out for a date one night and everything goes awry. After that I’m starring in this crazy movie called The Roommate, which is directed by Christian Christiansen and is sort of a re-telling of Single White Female. I’m the emotionally detached narcissist, but it’s early days and I still don’t know who’s playing the psycho opposite me.”

On the rumors that she was born while her parents were in jail: “This is the type of thing that you can’t be too sensitive about – it’s not like I did anything that’s worth talking about. I love my parents very much, but people either continue or break the patterns of what their life should be and I just want to completely break whatever patterns would lead me to the same life choices that they made.”

On what happens to Blair next season: “It’s yet to be decided, but I’m definitely going to college – to NYU – and not wearing any more school uniforms. Thank god we’re not pretending we all get held back and just continue with high school like all those other high school shows. I guess I’ll wear magnificent clothes every day that don’t have anything to do with school.”
