Lucy Liu wore a Giambattista Valli Spring 2009 sheath dress to the National Gay and Lesbian Force 2009 New York Leadership Awards this week. The dress hugely modified from the dress which was presented on the runway.
Modifications from the runway, are something a few of us frown upon, but I can hardly blame Lucy Liu for taking the modified/safe version of this silk crepe dress, with a tulle accents on the bust and skirt.
The version she picked was right for the occasion. It was dignified, and she looked stunning in her black version with smaller tulle accent on the bust.
This is one case in which the change was for the better, as I don’t know who could pull off the runway version.

Swinton could easily have pulled off the runway version.
I love seeing Lucy in the red carpet. I hope she has more projects so we have more oppurtunities to see her.
Possibly maybe. This is a tough one.
Lucy looks lovely
I think Marisa Tomei coul pull off the runway version

I actually prefer the modified version rather than the runway one (although I prefer the runway colour) – the fact that the tulle bit on the skirt is just on the front and doesn’t go all the way round looks a bit odd to me!
Not really into black dresses but gotta give credit where due. Flawless.
Centuries ago, Kate Moss wore something almost exactly like this black dress. Instead of ruffles, her dress her feathers at the bodice. She also wore it with good hoops and long loose hair but with a red lip. That was during her period of style perfection when stood by Johnny Depp on a press tour of Cannes.
