Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: March 2009

When Mena Suvari attended The Launch Of Character Project last week, I was really taken by her heels.

Nico informed me that they were from the Christian Siriano for Payless collection.

I was shocked, surely they cost hundreds of dollars. Wrong. They only cost between $25-$45.

Christian teamed up with Payless for his first shoe and handbag collection. He says it was inspired by the Egyptian landscape. I would say it was inspired by Christian Louboutin for Rodarte and Lanvin, with the spikes, chains, and cone heels.

Here are some other pieces from his shoe collection, which will be available this Fall.

Singer/actress Katharine McPhee attended the Matthew Williamson New York store opening party in New York during Fashion Week, which I was lucky enough to attend.

I had never been much of a fan of Katharine, but the knows how give the photographers what they want. A cute smile here, a sexy smirk there.

Her dress was as impressive as her posing, as she arrived wearing an ivory Matthew Williamson Poppy sequin dress.

The glittering dress has a simple round neckline, and is bejeweled in sequins in green, cream and gold.

Shimmer into summer in this fabulous dress which you can purchase from Net-A-Porter’s US site $1,620, or the international site for £1,126/€1,440.

I waited and waited for the Beyonce Knowles’ Vogue US April 2009 editorial. I don’t know what I was expecting, but when I finally saw it, I felt quite disappointed.

B was photographed by Mario Testino, but I still feel totally uninspired by her shoot. The shots are quite dull. Maybe because this shoot is all about Beyonce and not Sasha. Sasha has a bit of an edge to her.

With regards to the cover, many bloggers are asking the question: Is Beyoncé’s Vogue cover racist?

Sociological Images blogger said:

“For the second time this year, the Vogue cover features a woman of color, Beyonce. Unfortunately, in line with cultural stereotypes, the issue is the ‘Shape Issue,’ contributing to the stereotype of Black women, and Latina women too, as especially ‘curvy’….”

I look forward to the day when we’re not shocked by a woman of colour being on the cover for Vogue 2 months in a row, and these types of questions are not asked. Until then, I’ll just look at the pretty pictures.

We all have a brand we favour. If I could afford it, mine would be Giambattista Valli and Lanvin.

Charlize Theron’s is Dior, Renee Zellweger’s is Carolina Herrera and Victoria Beckham’s is her own collection.

These I would term ‘official brand ambassador’s’.

Joy Bryant loves Missoni. There’s hardly an event she attends – and there are many – in which she doesn’t wear Missoni.

When I met Joy at the Marchesa Fall 2009 presentation, I asked her why she had a particular love for Missoni.

Is she due to be announced as the face of the brand?

She told me it’s simply because the clothes fit her in terms of her style, and she feels very comfortable when she wears their pieces, and that’s most important for her.

I then went onto inform her that several of us hate her for wearing no make-up on the red carpet, and still looked outstanding beautiful. She started laughing. I guess she sensed I was joking.

I wasn’t. It’s just not fair.

On Sunday night Lily Allen performed at the Manchester Academy in England. It was the second date on her long overdue UK tour.

The singer wowed the crowds with covers of We’re The Kids In America and Britney’s Womanizer, as well as her own tracks.

She was on stage dressed in a strapless Acne baroque bustier dress.

The tango red satin strapless mini dress, has a tiered skirt, a boned corset, a pleated bodice, and a band at the waist.

You can add this cute frock to your closet, when you buy it from Net-A-Porter’s international site for only £469.79/€570.

This dress was also worn by Emma Watson in a photoshoot in both red and cream.
