Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: March 2009

There seems to be a lot of re-runs on the red carpet lately.

Elizabeth Banks is wearing the same Roberto Cavalli Spring 2009 embroidered dress, we saw on Milla Jovovich recently.

I am usually a fan of Elizabeth’s choices, but this dress doesn’t work for her at all. Maybe it’s her hairstyle that is going against the dress, but this look gets a thumbs down.

Rashida Jones would have had to wear Bridget Jones style pants with her black Azzedine Alaia dress.

The lace inserts all over her dress, were enough to show Rashida that a v-string just wouldn’t have been a good idea.

Her look is complete with Manolo Blahnik Pepe sandals.

Jaime Pressly is smokin’ hot. She loves to mix up her look a lot. Sometimes it’s jeans and a blouse, other times it’s the ladies who lunch look, but on this occasion – hot temptress.

Her legs are elongated wearing a black mini Badgley Mischka sparkling dress, which she wears with Jimmy Choo Private strappy sandals.

Audrina Patridge loves strapless dresses, so this navy Whitley Kros dress is not a surprisingly look for her.

She wore her dress with embellished Giuseppe Zanotti booties, and a black patent Alexander McQueen bow-shaped clutch.

I’m really loving the chestnut brown hair colour. It makes her face softer.

I am not loving Rachel Taylor’s choice of shoes, nor her overall look.

Her LBD is worn with a 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2009 blazer.

In another scene from Monday night’s Gossip Girl. Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf, wore a Hervé Léger by Max Azria Fall 2008 strapless mini bandage dress.

The dress has a mock zebra print, with the white panels all over.

Blair did not go full on sexy. She teamed her dress with a cute cream and gold embellished cardigan, and a gold anchor necklace.

Actress Michelle Williams arrived at 2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards last month in Santa Monica channeling a young Mia Farrow wearing a Chloé striped sleeveless dress.

The dress is so incredibly cute on her, and is very indicative of her effortless chic style. I love the long slung front pockets.

The striped dress is nautical chic at it’s very finest.

Net-A-Porter have this dress available to purchase on their US site for $2,185, or the international site for £1,033/€1,300.

This would be a great summer dress. It would be garden party ready with strappy sandals.

Anne Hathaway’s white asymmetrical ruched Valentino dress is gorgeous from every angle. She looks outstanding.

After a so so awards season, this sees her return to her best.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore a black strapless Valentino dress, she has worn before back in 2003.

The dress is a fit for the occasion, but I am not wowed by it. Her hair and make-up is impeccable as always, and she completes her look with a stunning Chopard bracelet.

Claire Danes pistachio green Valentino Spring 2008 Couture cap sleeved dress makes her stand out, as this is the most sophisticated dress at the event.

It almost feels too sophisticated, but I would take more over less any day.

Selita Ebanks sure knows how to stand out in a crowd. The model arrived at this premiere, working the hell out of this Balmain Fall 2008 mini dress.

Talk about jaw dropping.

The very LBD has a lace overlay and stunning embellished details on the bust, shoulders and skirt. The sex appeal is amped up with zippers going across the body.

I am always grateful to Tinsley Mortimer for adding a burst of colour onto the red carpet.

If you are wondering were those colourful clutches she is always carrying are from, they’re self designed for her Samantha Thavasa range.

This particular apple green clutch, matches the green straps on her snake print Jimmy Choo Corsica strappy sandals.

Even a simple white shirt dress becomes a hot look for Padma Lakshmi.

I don’t think I have ever seen Agyness Deyn so muted.

The model wore a black velvet Marc Jacobs Fall 2008 hooded dress. I think this is one of two pieces that ever made the red carpet, from that very questionable collection.

I think Lake Bell’s expression says it all. Bad choice of dress.

Coco Rocha seems to be opting for a softer look these days, since she took on presenting duties for Style.com. Last night she wore a Jason Wu Fall 2009 ensemble.

The wine sweater, printed skirt combo, with a statement necklace is beyond fabulous.

Daphne Guinness looks a little startled.

Is it because someone informed the Guinness heiress that she is wearing the same Gareth Pugh Spring 2009 dress which Beyonce wore to the MTV Europe Music Awards?

Her look is complete with Christian Louboutin platformed Mary Janes, and a black Azzedine Alaia belt.

Georgina Chapman wore a black sequined and feathered Marchesa Fall 2008 dress, under a gold and black fur trimmed coat.

My Best Dressed of last week, actress Jamie Chung, wore this strapless floral maxi dress to the the world premiere of Dragonball Evolution in Japan last Tuesday.

Sophia Bush had worn the same dress 7 months earlier to the Teen Choice Awards.

Sophia wore her dress with a grey Fendi Borderline satin clutch, and a string of silver bracelets.

Sophia is one of my many girl crushes, but I prefer the way Jamie wore the dress, with a shorter bodice. This allowed the skirt to appear more voluminous, and I believe it would have billowed like a giant mushroom on the red carpet. Sophia’s skirt looks flat in comparison.

Jamie wins for me.

Last night saw the return of Gossip Girl Season 2 in the US.

Episode 18 was called The Age of Dissonance, in reference to the Constance Billard and St. Jude seniors production of The Age of Innocence.

Blair Waldorf, played by Leighton Meester was dressed in a black lace Marchesa Fall 2008 gown.

The a high collared gown had ruffled details on the shoulders, and 3/4 of the skirt, with a charming brooch completing the look.

Leighton’s hair was plied up in a loose wavy updo, with a few pieces framing her face.

This dress gives off a Holly Golightly vibe. It really suits her.

I always pictured Ellen Pompeo in this dress, as she’s not afraid of a big daring dress.

Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, was also dressed in a Marchesa Fall 2008 gown.

Her strapless dove grey gown, was adorned with feathers around the bodice, which cascaded down one side of her multi-layered chiffon skirt.

Blake’s hair was also pulled back off her face, to show off her rosy make-up.

Unfortunately I could not find a full-length picture, but I am sure she looked amazing in the gown.

Here is a preview of last nights episode.
