Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: March 2009

It took this picture for me to realise what an amazing body Kate Hudson had.

Back in January she arrived that the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York to promote Bride Wars, on The Late Show with David Letterman.

The actress wore a gorgeous multi-coloured Emilio Pucci Spring 2009 body-hugging mini dress, with tights and Sergio Rossi suede slingback sandals.

If I stick to my ‘no tights rule’, then Hilary Rhoda should win this, because she wore the same dress, sans tights to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Party at LAX In Las Vegas last month.

But not even that will stop me giving this win to Kate, she looked outstanding in this dress.

I almost fell of my chair when I saw pictures of Reese Witherspoon wearing this space-aged Rodarte Fall 2009 silver and green dress, to the Monsters Vs. Aliens LA premiere today.

Reese did wear a modified Rodarte gown to the 2009 Oscars, but I never expected her to wear one of their edgier pieces.

No offense to Reese, but Rodarte is for those with a bit of an edge, like Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett and Keira Knightley. But saying that I’m presently surprised with this effort.

I love her Balenciaga heels. The grey peep-toes, with the yellow heels are a nice touch.

The only downside for me is the hair.

The hair and the dress don’t quite work well together. You have a “soccer mom” type hairstyle, with the “Downtown New Yorker” dress.

Her hair pulled back in a tight ponytail, would have sexed up this look, and may have worked better imo.

If she wanted to try something new, she should have gone all the way.

My choice for Best Dressed this week was a very difficult.

I was so in love with Elena Ballesteros’ chic look at the Los Abrazos Rotos premiere, that I made my choice on Thursday, that I would give the Best Dressed Of The Week to her.

Then Marisa Tomei wowed me with her gorgeous Christian Dior New York raspberry taffeta dress by Yves Saint Laurent on Friday, and the decision got that bit harder.

In the end I decided that they both deserved recognition, as they were equally outstanding.

You guys seemed to have the same struggle.

Diane Kruger in YSL took an early lead, then the lead between her and Rachel Bilson in 3.1 Phillip Lim changed several times before Rachel finally won.

Great choice, she looked so cute.

Last night the owner of Decades, Cameron Silver, presented a glorious 20th Century Haute Couture fashion show. The dresses and gowns were from his very own vintage couture boutique.

The stunning Norman Norell amethyst mermaid gown is most definitely my favourite. I can see it on someone tall and elegant like Cate Blanchett or Ellen Pompeo.

Mother-to-be Rachel Griffiths, co-hosted this event with Cameron.

Rachel wore a vintage Sarmi red and black printed dress, with a black bow ribbon detail.

Her look was complete with a black clutch and H Stern jewels.

With her growing baby bump perfectly concealed for this occasion, Nicole Richie wore a floaty, earth-mother-style vintage Zandra Rhodes kaftan, with nude Christian Louboutin pumps.

I love her python gold clutch.

Nicky Hilton’s zip flower dress, reminds me of the Versace Spring 2009 zip hearts dress, but I don’t think it’s from the same collection.

This mini proved that LBDs don’t need to be boring. Nicky completed her look with Jimmy Choo Glenys python gladiators.

Liz Goldwyn poses with Marisa Tomei, who was a busy girl last night.

Liz wore an amazing vintage Balenciaga Haute Couture black dress. The satin bowed dress has a baby-doll silhouette, and beautiful tiered lace skirt.

This is my second favourite look of this event, after Marisa.

With her black sexy Brian Atwood sandals, Zoe Saldana wore a sparkling silver vintage James Galanos mini dress with a black satin trim.

The dress is complimented with a H Stern necklace, and matching diamond earrings.

I would’ve love to have seen the sexy tank dress without the oversized blazer, but as we’re seeing more and more, this is a huge trend on the red carpet at the moment.

Garcelle Beauvais was certainly out to have fun last night, and that showed in this vintage Bill Blass feathered hem confection. The dress was covered in gold sequins, to make her one of the golden girls of the night.

Pink Brian Atwood sandals and H Stern jewels complete the look.

On the Decades website it says this vintage Bill Blass leopard print dress is ‘not for everyone‘, and I would agree.

The only other person I can see wearing this dress with the same fearless attitude as Lisa Rinna is Scary Spice, Melanie B.

It may not be to your taste, but you have to agree that Lisa is working the hell out of this dress.

Kudos to her.

*Jaw drop*

What no black? No Dolce & Gabbana? Someone check Rose McGowan’s pulse.

Rose took a night off wearing her favourite Italian’s designers, to wear this sweeping red vintage Loris Azzaro gown.

Her gown was co-ordinated with her lippie, and her look was complete with all gold accessories.

An angelic Allison Miller wore a strapless vintage Ungaro floral dress, which just goes to prove that the floral trend will never die.

Perrey Reeves dazzles in a vintage Loris Azzaro black dress. The black dress stands out with a diamond sequined detail on the empire waist.
