Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: February 2009

Worst Dressed
I am so glad Jessica Biel made this so easy for me.

The white Prada duchesse satin gown, is so incredibly plain and boring – just like Biel.

That draped material didn’t work for me. In some pictures it ballooned out, and just looked ridiculous.

The complete the disaster, Jessica forgot to wash out the mounds of grease in her hair.

Most Predictable Award
No bling, but we get yet ANOTHER mermaid gown from Beyonce Knowles.

Yes it flatters her shape, but could she please play another record.

To be honest I liked this gown for about 10secs, before the camera panned gown. The hem is horrendous.

UPDATE:
You will/should not be surprised that his monstrosity is House of Dereon Couture. Only Tina Knowles could create this hot mess.

Wash Out Award
As much as I love this Elie Saab Spring 2009 Couture gown, the colour is so wrong for the beautifully pale Evan Rachel Wood.

The nude colour totally drains her, and washes her out. I would have loved to have seen her in a striking colour.

Her jewels are by Neil Lane.

Worst Red Award
I love Amy Adams, and I tried to love her Carolina Herrera red strapless gown, but I couldn’t.

Firstly I really dislike the black piping on the bodice, and I really dislike her green, blue and cherry red Fred Leighton necklace with the gown.

I’m 16, Going On 30 Award
Seriously this is TOO much dress for Miley Cyrus.

When will her stylist and her mother get a look right for this girl? Why do they insist on aging her so dramatically.

The Zuhair Murad Spring 2009 Couture gown itself is gorgeous. I love tiered scallop skirt, and embellished belt, but it’s a gown for a woman, not a child.

Most Boring Award
A lot of you said I was too kind to Kate Winslet by putting her on the Best Dressed List at the BAFTA Awards. Looking back I agree.

I did say I would put her on the Worst Dressed list if she opted for another dark colour, so here she is.

The dark colour is not the only problem, I really don’t like that embroidered mesh part on her grey YSL Atelier one-shouldered gown. It serves no purpose, in fact it ruins the dress for me.

Her look is completed with Chopard jewelry.

I Know You Like It, But I Hate It Award
I am sure a lot of you will hate me for adding Amanda Seyfried and her Valentino Spring 2009 Couture gown on the Worst Dressed list.

This gown was better strapless, as it was presented on the runway. The straps ruin the look for me.

Worst Hair & Make-up Award
I don’t even know the colour of Alicia Keys’ dress, because I am so horrified by the brown wig and shocking make-up.

Why, oh why?

Update: Armani Prive gown. Still so upset about the make-up and hair.

De Ju Vu Award
Don’t you feel like you have seen this Dolce & Gabbana mermaid gown a million times before?

We saw something similar on January Jones and Olga Kurylenko, that by now I am so over this look.

De Ju Vu Mark 2 Award
As much as I am a huge fan of Roland Mouret, this modified gown is not to dissimilar to the red Dior dress with the open neckline, which Heidi Klum wore to the Oscars last year.

What Black Again? Award
Not surprised at all that Angelina Jolie is wearing black. Can you believe this is by Elie Saab?

I am so used to seeing his dresses so colourful and embellished. I have never seen his designs look so plain.

She tried to punch it up a little with green Lorraine Schwartz earrings, but that’s not nearly enough.

I will ignore the drama that comes with writing about Vanessa Hudgens, because she looks so beautiful tonight.

On the red carpet Vanessa told Ryan Seacrest that Georgina Chapman the designer of Marchesa – My new BFF ;) – had redesigned her dress from the runway.

You can see from the runway version, Georgina lengthen the dress to become a mermaid gown, lighten the rosette details, and removed the tulle detail on the shoulder.

Georgina is my Queen, and applaud her work here.

Outstanding.

TV presenters at the Oscars tend to be overlooked because they’re there to do a job, and everyone looks to the actresses.

This post is to put the focus on them before the Angelina Jolie’s and Kate’s Winslet’s turn up.

Samantha Harris is presenting on The Insider tonight, and she is wearing a cobalt blue chiffon one-shoulder gown from Gustavo Cadile’s Spring 2009 collection.

Lisa Rinna is presenting for TV Guide Channel, and wearing a purple chiffon tiered skirt halter gown from Gustavo Cadile’s Fall 2009 collection.

Giuliana Rancic is presenting for E! Live from the Red Carpet wearing a Pamella Roland’s burgundy metallic jacquard single strap body hugging bustier gown, straight from this weeks Fall 2009 collection.

Maria Menounos is presenting for Access Hollywood wearing a gorgeous strapless Randi Rahm gown, with a full skirt, which is embroidered with floral rosettes.

I love Samantha’s blue Gustavo Cadile gown, what about you?

Julianne Moore was the host of this event.

She arrived wearing a Lanvin Spring 2009 ensemble consisting of a blue asymmetrical blouse with a puffy sleeve, and a black skirt, which tied at the waist.

Her look was complete with YSL criss-cross strappy sandals.

Angie Harmon wore this edgy Todd Lynn Fall 2008 black halter dress, which had furry details on the shoulder.

I love how fierce she look here. Totally unexpected.

Camilla Belle’s sequined sheath dress is divine.

I love the pop of colour on her lips, and the way the black peplum at the waist kicks back.

I got really excited to see Dita von Teese again, but for what might be the first time ever, she really lets me down with this dress. Talking about aging.

The dress is too boring, too plain and too safe for Dita. I just can’t believe I am typing those words with reference to her.

Sharon Stone wore a black silk chiffon Christian Dior Spring 2009 halter top embellished with gold paillettes.

Her look was complete with black pants, a black blazer and a Lady Dior ‘Cannage’ bag.

Love her or hate her, Kim Kardashian continues to impress. This time she kept her look simple in a black gown, whilst showing off some stunning diamonds.

Who would thought an event hosted by Julianne Moore would have Kim as an attendee?

Debra Messing was one of my red carpet faves for a while, but I feel lost looking at her here.

I don’t know what I love more. Natalia Vodianova’s strappy sandals, or her mint green dress. ♥.

Monique Lhuillier looks stunning in her own self designed ruffled strapless dress.

Helena Christensen is purplicious in her stunning plunging gown.

Lily Collins has been making many red carpet appearances, despite what she actually does still not being entirely clear.

She wore a crushed BCBG Max Azria taupe dres, with gold heels.

Victoria Beckham was ahead in this poll from the very start.

I love Victoria, she looked amazing at the Armani store opening party, and was also ready to vote her Best Dressed until Kerry Washington wowed me in Louis Vuitton.

It could have been just a boring black suit, but Kerry kept the accessories true to the runway, but added animal wedges, which worked. Even Chloe Sevigny wore the runway shoes with her Vuitton Spring ensemble, so kudos to Kerry for stepping out of the box.
