Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: February 2009

When I was trying to predict Freida Pinto’s Oscar de la Renta BAFTA gown, this pink Spring 2009 gown was in my top 6.

Instead it was Blake Lively who had the honour of wearing this gown to The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee premiere, at the Berlin Film Festival last night.

I love the plunging neckline, the red sash tied to the waist, but I don’t like her posture.

You’re in a gown that cost thousands of dollars, throw your shoulders back girl.

This grungy slouch is not befitting of this gown. Freida would have done it justice.

I can’t even talk about that ‘just got out of bed hair’.

When the pictures came in from the BAFTA Awards, and I saw the Amy Adams wear wearing RM by Roland Mouret for the 3rd time in a row, and I noticed a trend.

The trend is that Amy wears a designers dresses 3 separate times, before she moves onto the next designer.

This started with Oscar de la Renta at the Critic’s Choice Awards.

She has since gone onto repeat this pattern with Giambattista Valli, and most recently RM by Roland Mouret.

I would like to think the quota for loaned dresses is 3 at a time, and she falls so in love with all of them, that she has to wear them.

Maybe at her next 3 red carpet appearances she will wear 3 different designers and blow my theory, but for now it seems like a trend.

2009 MusiCares “Person Of The Year” Gala, LA

Camilla Belle arrived at this event glowing with pure gorgeousity, wearing a short magenta Marchesa dress.

The mini dress had a multitude of beautiful embellishments all over the top half of the dress, and a satin skirt which kicks out at the back.

My number 2 girl crush completed the look with a Jimmy Choo Kase oval clutch, and silver peep-toes.

AMPAS’ Scientific And Technical Awards Dinner, LA

I really wanted to love this gorgeous Oscar de la Renta strapless gown, but it’s Jessica Biel who ruins this for me.

This could be in on a mannequin for all the life she is putting into this gown.

2009 Writers Guild Awards, LA

Kate Walsh was one of the presenters at this event, and she looked so very harming wearing a black strapless Missoni Spring 2009 embellished gown.

Mena Suvari wore a Missoni look very similar to this, but hers was a jumpsuit.

“He’s Just Not That Into You” Australian Premiere

Ginnifer Goodwin braved the rain to attend this premiere wearing a lime green Brian Reyes Spring 2009 dress, with a rise and fall hem, and a matching croc belt.

She completed her look with black sandals.

I was loving the longer locks from the LA premiere. I’m not loving the crop so much.

The Reader Berlin Film Festival Premiere

This Lanvin tiered dress Kate Winslet chose for this premiere was perfectly pretty, but I am dying for her to get back to her colourful red carpet dresses.

At the moment it’s black, after black, after black with no wow-factor.

I hope she doesn’t wear black at the Oscars. I might just lose it if she does.

CBS’s The Early Show, New York

To promotes her new movie He’s Just Not Into You on CBS’s The Early Show, Jennifer Connelly looked very chic in a Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2008 ensemble, with Christian Louboutin Mary Jane heels.

Vogue Pre-BAFTA Party

Julia Restoin Roitfeld’s mini black embellished Balmain Spring 2009 dress, is dangerously close to giving her a wardrobe malfunction.

Claudia Schiffer doesn’t seem to have made an effort for this event.

“Late Show with David Letterman”, New York

Whilst Isla Fisher posed for photographers outside the David Letterman show, she wore a pretty white Zac Posen cap sleeve dress.

She gave her look an edge by wearing a clunky silver statement necklace, and Christian Louboutin Very Galaxy heels.

“The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” Photocall – Berlin Film Festival

Blake Lively is not only bland in New York, but also bland in Berlin.

Why did she just stop trying?

What is she wearing? Well Vena Cava of course, with Moschino Mary Janes.

The gorgeous Rosario Dawson was in Toyko to promote her latest movie Seven Pounds with her co-star Will Smith.

The actress attended a press conference wearing a pale pink Malandrino Spring 2009 lace dress, layered with tulle folded pleats.

With her brunette hair swept to one-side, and her make-up looking flawless, she wore her dress with tan pointy pumps, with a cute bow detail.

Later in the evening for the premiere, Rosario wore a pale blue satin bustier dress with tulle overlay, and jeweled waist. This dress was also from the same Malandrino Spring 2009 collection.

This time she opted for peep-toes, and swept her hair up into a very chic updo.

These dresses are equally beautiful, but given the choice of one, I would go for the pale pink press conference dress. ♥

Believe it or not, but the House of Holland Spring 2009 sheer dress with black and white polka dots which Maya aka M.I.A wore when she performed at the Grammy’s, was a runway sample.

That means it was exactly the same dress Agyness Deyn had worn at the House of Holland after party during London Fashion Week last year.

Hard to believe a 9 month pregnant woman, can fit into a dress designed for a size 0 model.

I admire both women for having the balls to wear this daring dress, but Maya made a bigger impact, so she wins this for me.

Anna Friel should have really taken the subtle hint from her Viktor & Rolf Fall 2008 dress which was telling her. NO.

No this will not look good on you.

My other problem is that Anna should have really considered a bra, because the twins are not holding up too well, and they’re also smuggling raisins.

The black statement one-shouldered gown over a nude underlay, was embellished with staples.

On the plus side, her hair and make-up was really nice.

Courtney Love wore my favourite dress from the Givenchy Spring 2009 Couture show I attended a few weeks ago.

I am glad that someone with a bit of character and attitude wore this gown, because only someone like her or Madonna can pull this off.

The long draped black gown has a shrug with puff ball shoulders, which are embellished with flower petals, that work their way down the sleeves.

Freida Pinto wore a black Chanel Resort 2009 dress, with a floral embellished see-through yoke.

I am not a fan of sheer yoke’s, but I would have preferred it to this plastic yoke.

She completed the look with gorgeous black strappy heels, whilst styling her hair in a chic updo.

Unfortunately, I don’t like this look. Maybe the runway belt would have helped, but I think I’m just clutching at straws.

My ray of shining light Thandie Newton didn’tt let me down. The British actress made a welcome return to the red carpet.

Last night she wore a multi-coloured Jonathan Saunders Spring 2009 floaty dress with a layered skirt.

She wore her dress with gold strappy sandals, and added a touch of crimson to her lips.

As much as I love Thandie, she has made 4 recent red carpet appearances, but her hairstyle has remained the same. Maybe she is having a bad hair week, but she needs to switch it up for next time.

Alexa Chung opted to wear a navy dress, which is very similar to the Chanel dress Emma Watson wore recently.

Sienna Miller like Marion Cotillard, was one of my red carpet favourites. But when I look at her in this ruffled green Matthew Williamson dress, and Louis Vuitton black tuxedo jacket with feathered shoulders, I just say meh! so what?

It just doesn’t move me. She just doesn’t move me anymore.

The gorgeous and impeccably dress Naomie Harris, walked the red carpet wearing a Dolce & Gabbana black strapless corset dress.

Singer Heidi Range wore RM by Roland Mouret ensemble which included an off-the-shoulder top. She accessorized with black peep-toes, a black clutch and a gigantic black bangle.

She was accompanied to the event by her boyfriend presenter Dave Berry.

Pixie Geldof’s LWD exposes the fact that her deodorant has run out.

Roisin Murphy has to be wearing the widest pants I have ever seen.

They’re from the Armand Basi One Spring 2009 collection, and her top is from the Givenchy Spring 2009 collection.

Alexandra Burke is new to the red carpet after winning the X Factor before Christmas.

I’m sure she already has a hair and make-up team, who are doing a fairly good job, but she needs to fire her stylist.

This nautical inspired black and white striped sequined D&G Spring 2009 tunic with a red sail boat, gets nil points from me.

Matthew Williamson’s show was one of my favourite shows of the entire Spring 2009 season. I covet every piece that was presented.

Radio and TV presenter Edith Bowman made really hard work of this Spring 2009 graphic print dress.

She made it look so frumpy, and totally undesirable.

On the plus side Natalie Imbruglia has returned to her natural roots.

The negative is her RM by Roland Mouret Chevalier fitted jacket and black pants.

It was an attempt at something new which I respect, but I would urge her to stick to cute dresses and flowing gowns.

This does not suit her at all.

Alice Dellal no doubt turned heads in this see-through black dress with fishnet tights.
