Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: February 2009

When I received my invitation for the Marchesa Fall 2009 collection, I knew the presentation would exceed all my expectations, and it did.

It was a cold and rainy day, but once I entered the Chelsea Art Museum, where the collection was presented, it was like being transported into a fairy tale wonderland. A wonderland consisting of fou fou cocktail dresses and evening gowns with many layers, mounds of tulle, embellishments and satin bows.

Models were perched on pedestals, like works of art – which they were – at a gallery. This enabled us to look at the clothes up close, and get to see them from all angles.

First up were a selection of 3 nude dresses. All beautiful in their own unique way.

The colours seemed to be grouped together as I made my way around the museum. Those colours ranged from nudes, to blacks, to plums, to greys to scarlet.

I loved so many of these pieces I found it hard to pick just one. The lilac chiffon draped strapless dress was one, and the glittering black gown, which had a black satin bow, and a tiered silver embellished skirt was another. I would love to see that gown on Anne Hathaway this Sunday.

I said Hi to Georgina Chapman, who is impossibly beautiful in real life. She greeted me like an old friend with two kisses on each cheek, and shaking my hand, which was so sweet.

I told her about my blog, and she said that I was in the right place, and I couldn’t have agreed with her more.

I asked her if we will see any of these gowns on the red carpet on Oscar night, to which she replied “I hope so. It’s all so nerve-racking. You hope an actress is going to wear your gowns. But in the end you have to wait to see what she arrives in on the red carpet.”

I don’t know about you, but after looking at this collection. I think it is safe to say at least 3 will make it on Sunday.

This was my best experience this week.

As I said, impossibly beautiful Georgina Chapman, the designer of this collection, looked stunning in an all black self-designed ensemble. Her black sheer tunic was embellished, and her black satin capped sleeved jacket and pants, were presented in this Fall collection.

Her partner Keren Craig also wore black, but her sheer tunic was embellished around the neckline.

Shame on you Diane Kruger for wearing glasses inside, especially when the rooms were so dimly lit.

Helena Christensen smouldered in a black tunic Marchesa dress, with embellished details on the neckline and sleeves.

You would not know it by looking at this picture, but Taylor Momsen was wearing a lot of make-up. I guess it was stage make-up that doesn’t looked caked on in pictures and on TV.

She wore a sequined Marchesa blazer with a white tank, leather pants and red Louboutin’s.

It’s collections like Marchesa’s, full of stunning red carpet gowns, that made me start this blog.

As is common with Marchesa presentations, the models stood on platforms whilst we ooohh’ed and ahh’ed at the stunning gowns.

The collection included layers upon layer of pleated tulle and silk chiffon ruffled gowns.

The colour palette include smoky lavender, scarlett and hazy grey.

Strapless gowns, cocktail dresses, pant suits were presented.

The reds gathered the most attention, to the point that you had to queue just to view them.

One was an exquisite strapless bejeweled dress with a satin bow and sculptured hips.

My favourite was a lavender gown, which had touches of embellished details.

A heavily made up Tayloy Momsen, a stunning Helena Christensen, and make-up free Joy Bryant were all in attendance.

Bigwigs included Harvey Weinstein, Anna Wintour and Nina Garcia.

I am off to Vivienne Tam, so I will upload the gorgeous pics later.

I also had a quick chat the Ridiculously beautiful Georgina Chapman and Joy Bryant, which I will bring you later.

After looking at the Matthew Williamson Fall 2009 collection on Style.com this morning, I realised that Lindsay Lohan is the first celebrity to wear a piece from the Fall 2009 collections.

She wore this multi-coloured 3/4 length sleeved cocoon shaped coat, which has large lapels and a rise and fall hem, before it even hit the runway.

She wore the coat when she arrived at Matthew Williamson’s store party on Sunday night, and the show was presented with this coat Tuesday morning.

So this should really be titled Linsday Lohan to Runway.

My pictures from the Pamella Roland Fall 2009 show, which I attended yesterday are really bad, so I’m waiting for the professional pictures to come through.

Before the show, the pre-show began when Paris Hilton came from backstage to walk to her seat. The paparazzi and guests of the show swarmed her and her sister. I kinda felt sorry for the other celebs, because none of them received this high level of attention.

Paris was in her element, lapping up the attention and posing wearing a cute Pamella Roland Spring 2009 grey sleeveless dress, with a white collar and tie detail.

You will be happy to know she removed her sunglasses before the show started.

Sister Nicky was similarly unfazzed by all the attention. She wore a red jacket, which had a structured collar, with black pants.

Kellie Pickler caused the second greatest stir in the front row. She has become the darling of fashion week, and for this show she wore a cute red belted dress with a full skirt.

The skirt was detailed with floral embellishments.

Amanda Bynes was much taller than I would have thought, and she looked fabulous wearing a black haltered keyhole dress.

I have been reading your comments about Amanda’s hair, and I think it’s hilarious that you share my pain about her hair.

Back in July 2007, I did a post called The Never Changing Hairstyle Of Amanda Bynes. Cut to 2009, and her hairstyle is still the same.

Jessica Stroup arrived without a coat – brave girl – showing off how fabulous she looked, wearing a navy silk chiffon Pamella Roland Spring 2009 dress, with a ruffled plunging neckline, which she wore with silver peep-toes.

*brrr*

Kristen Bell slipped in wearing a red sheath Pamella Roland Spring 2009 dress, which she wore under her leather jacket.

Katrina Bowden wore the cutest, sun-shiniest mini dress she could find from the Pamella Roland Spring 2009 collection, and it fits her style perfectly.

The strapless dress was embellished with silver crystals, which complimented her heels.

Michelle Trachtenberg quite clearly was not in the mood to play dress up.

I was not in the front row, but the gorgeous Nigel Barker was. Even though I have seen so many celebrities this week, I have not asked for pictures or autographs, as I’m sure it gets really tedious for them.

But when I saw Nigel, I just had to grab a second of his time. He is even more gorgeous in real life and very charming. *Swoon*

He took his mother to the show. You love him more now don’t you? *sighs*

Maz Azria’s Fall 2009 was a dark, yet romantic collection.

The fluid draped dresses were toughed up with turtlenecks, Gothic lace, leather gloves and cut-outs. Some pieces had the Balmain-esqe shoulder padding we had seen earlier at the

The design duo presented lace bodysuits, suede leggings, mini dresses, long billowing gowns and leather jackets.

The collection had a Lara Croft type feel to it, with all the turtleneck bodysuits, which tells me that Angelina Jolie may have been their inspiration for this collection.

Black dominated the colour palette, but mustard, white, cream, plum and forest green were also presented.

Here are a few of my pictures.

Rachel Bilson wore a raspberry pink Max Azria Spring 2009 one-shouldered dress, which was a gorgeous colour on her. I could have done without the tights, but it’s cold in New York so I will let her off.

Alicia Keys arrived wearing a black coat, with her Armani Privé Fall 2007 heels which she wore later in the night to the Armani 5th Avenue store opening.

Aisha Tyler is so incredibly tall, she’s taller than me, and I am 5ft 11in.

She is also even more beautiful in real life. TV doesn’t do her enough justice.

She braved the cold and went sans tights to wear this tropical summery Max Azria Resort 2009 dress, with beige peep-toe lace-up booties.

I’m not crazy about the belt though.

Keisha Whitaker wore a gorgeous cap sleeved Max Azria Spring 2009 taupe coloured dress, which looks divine against her skin. She wore her dress with ruby pumps, and her hair swept to one side.

Joy Bryant was of course there.

Tinsley Mortimer quite bizarrely arrived wearing a hot pink Alexander McQueen Spring 2008 draped dress with a black waist belt. She wore her dress with YSL heels and Chanel purse.

I really dislike her bangs.

We have seen the delicious pictures of Lucy Liu wearing a black Hervé Léger at the front row of the Max Azri’s Hervé Léger Fall 2009 collection, but she arrived wearing a gorgeous caramel Martin Grant Fall 2008 off-the-shoulder woollen coat.

Last year I remember trying this coat on in Selfridges, but I just could not get the off-the-shoulder part of the coat to work for me.

Unlike me, Lucy does not make heavy work of this coat, in fact she looks very chic, as she folds one side of the coats collar, to give it another dimension.
