Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: February 2009

I admire UK TV presenter Kelly Brook for leaving her home without any make-up knowing the paparazzi were camped at her door.

She swapped her usual cute tea dresses and sky-high heels, for trainers and gym wear for an early morning work-out.

It has been snowing in London, so the brunette beauty wore a Topshop Chunky Knit Poncho to keep her warm.

There are currently limited sizes, but this poncho is still on sale at Topshop.com for £45/$90.

Kerry Washington look Fab-u-lous wearing Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 ensemble, which consisted of a black blazer, a silver and gold metallic obi belt, and a black feathered skirt.

Like I said at the end of last year, Kerry was one of the most consistent actresses to walk the red carpet in 2008.

Many of you argued that she didn’t take enough risks. I would say that looks to be changing in 2009, because there are no safe options from the Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 collection.

Kerry did not opt for the runway shoes. Instead she wore a pair of leopard print pumps that worked perfectly. ?

Halle Berry was equally impressive wearing a strapless nude Reem Acra Spring 2009 dress, with a gold metallic floral print.

I loved this dress, but the large folded detail at the back was a little too much for my liking.

She completed her look with gold matching Christian Louboutin slingbacks.

After visiting Gustavo Cadile on Thursday, I was really excited to see that Sanaa Lathan was wearing a dress I had seen in his studio.

The gorgeous chocolate dress, had a mesh overlay with stunning embroidered details, and sequins to give it some sparkle.

The dress was further decorated with a dark pink bowed sash at the waist, and smaller bows on the shoulders.

She completes her look with matching pumps, and a Mary Norton clutch.

GORGEOUS.

I am not crazy about Taraji P. Henson’s make-up, but I do like her Zac Posen dress. Very appropriate for ‘Ladies Who Lunch’.

Tia Mowry opted for a colourful dress with a lot of pizazz.

Tichina Arnold wore a black suit, with a ruffled hemmed skirt, but forgot to put a blouse under her jacket.

Her look was complete with YSL two tone heels.

Vivica A. Fox wore a gorgeous navy dress, with a stunning embellished neckline and pocket detailing.

She wore her dress with Balenciaga heels.

Garcelle Beauvious opted for a black dress with a textured white front bib, which she wore with black peep-toes.

Lauren London in all black with a white Chanel purse.

Tatyana Ali’s exotic gown seems a bit much for this event.

Katharine McPhee first wore this emerald green Karen Zambos Vintage Couture Baretta dress to the 15th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute back in October.

The singer accessorized with gold earrings, a matching bracelet and white gold strappy sandals.

Garcelle Beauvais wore the same dress last month, when she attended InStyle’s Diamond Show.

She glammed up her dress by adding gold jewelry, including a thin gold belt with matching gold t-bar heels, and a leopard print clutch.

Both ladies look great in the dress. Katharine’s dress fits slightly better, but I love Garcelle’s accessories, so she wins for me.

This silk crepe dress with cowl neckline, and a shirt-tail hem is available to purchase from Shopbop.com for $328.

If Georgina Chapman is my Queen, then Gustavo Cadile is one of my kings of red carpet gowns.

Today I visited the talented designer, to view his Fall 2009 collection. Not long after walking in I spotted many gowns that would definitely be on any Best Dressed list.

The collection included a mix of cocktail dresses and long evening gowns. Some with crystal detailing, and some with dreamy sequins, to add those embellish touches I love so much.

Other details included cascading layers of tulle, silk chiffon, flapper-esqe fringing, jewel encrusted sashes, draping and sweet-heart necklines.

I was immediately drawn to the smoky pink strapless tulle gown, with a tiered skirt, and a satin pink sash, with a bow and brooch detail.

Maybe it was my gushing about how beautiful the gown was, because Gustavo offered the dress for me to try on.

As I put the gown on, I had a Cinderella moment, that I wished would never end.

It was my favourite dress from the collection, along with the navy blue gown above.

Gustavo has an ever growing celebrity fan base, with Eva Longoria and Queen Latifah particular in love with his designs.

I got to see a sample of the dress Queen Latifah wore to the Grammy’s recently, and this dress is part of the Fall 2009, 35 piece collection.

Gustavo’s gowns can be purchased from Neiman Marcus in the US, and from the 15 May, the collection will – for the first time – be available in the ‘Evening Saloon’ at Harrods.

Hopefully we will get to see a few on the red carpet on Sunday night.

Rodarte

Kristen Dunst was front row at the Rodarte Fall 2009 show looking fantastic wearing a Rodarte Fall 2008 multi-coloured knit dress.

I always love what the Mulleavy sisters produce, I just wish we would see more of their edgy designs on the red carpet.

Calvin Klein

I seriously did not recognise Kate Beckinsale until I saw the caption under her name.

Looking at her hair, I will guess these are clip on bangs. I hope she ditches them before the Oscars.

I appreciate that Kate has tried to shake up her look a bit in this leather dress, but it just feels a bit false.

Eva Mendes wears head-to-toe black. What more can I say?

Erin Wasson + RVCA

Leighton Meester wore a Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2009 ensemble consisting of a gold sequinned top, and a teal snake print skirt, with navy tights and bronze heels.

Like Kate, Leighton as opted for bangs, and like Kate, I don’t think it quite works.

3.1 Phillip Lim

I expected to see more of Becki Newton at fashion week. She arrived at Phillip Lim’s show wearing a taupe sequinned dress, from the designers Spring 2009 collection.

Badgley Mischka

Kellie Pickler continues to shine in the front row. Her she wears a stunning ombre Badgley Mischka Pre-Fall 2009 dress, with a black sash at the waist.

I have been praising Kellie a lot, but she really should have packed another pair of shoes, she has been wearing those Trib Two’s all week. Even I brought 10 pairs.

Jessica Stroup wore a white strapless Badgley Mischka Spring 2009 collection, with silver slingbacks.

Her dress was presented as a gown, but I equally love this shorten version, as it’s young, fun and suits her personality.

Kim Kardashian wore an black asymmetrical dress, with black Louboutin’s. Another very sophisticated look for Kim.

Anna Sui

Jessica Szhor wore a cute lace dress with black booties.

She as naturally -enviable- thick hair, so I am perplexed about her need for extensions.

Taylor Momsen just tries too hard. What is so wrong with being 15 years old? Why is she trying to act way older than her young years?

I feel like getting a pack of baby wipes, and taking all that eye-liner off her face.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld Party

Supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Gisele Bundchen struck a pose together.

With her long leather gloves Natalia wore a crystal embellished Emporio Armani Spring 2009 blazer.

Gisele was conservative by comparison, wearing an all black ensemble.

Julia Restoin Roitfeld attended her brother’s event wearing a cute navy and gold polka dotted Christian Dior Spring 2009 dress with a Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 purse.
