61st Annual DGA Awards

What a knock out.

Freida Pinto looks nothing short of breath-taking, wearing this metallic one-shouldered Zac Posen Spring 2009 mini dress, to the Directors Guild of America Awards over the weekend.

She wore her dress with matching peep-toes, and her hair and make-up were totally flawless.

The former aspiring model has only had one bad day on the red carpet, which she’s more than made up for ever since.

Amy Adams arrived wearing a shimmering Jasmine Di Milo Spring 2007 dress, with silver and nude sequin details.

What I love is how the dress is cut low at the back, as Amy tries to shake her “safe on the red carpet” image.

Amy never lets me down, safe or not, so this is another fantastic look for me.

Silver Christian Louboutin Fortuna slingbacks complete the look.

Marisa Tomei has an amazing figure, and this white strapless Dior gown shows it off by giving her a very sexy silhouette.

She completes her look with a stunning silver necklace with heart-shape details, and a purple clutch.

Taraji P. Henson strapless Kaufman Franco dress really gives her a lift.

For some reason the necklace really bothers me. The bodice has such an interesting detail on it, but the necklace distracts me.

Taraji gets better and better this awards season.

Michelle Monaghan had a baby girl 3 months ago, and is already back on the red carpet looking stunning.

She shows us her post-baby figure for the first time, wearing a white strapless Giambattista Valli Spring 2009 dress, covered in black paillettes.

Rachel Griffiths is glowing in a champagne coloured Lanvin Fall 2008 dress.

Her jewels are by Neil Lane, and her silver clutch is by Alexandra Knight.

This is a nice enough Temperley London dress for Claire Danes, with the embellished shoulders, but something is missing.

A matching embellished belt perhaps?

Now this is one Herve Leger dress you guys just have to love.

Viola Davis’ dress has a chiffon skirt, to give it such chic elegant touch.

I am glad she opted for a gold clutch, which really grabs your attention.

I love Virginia Madsen. She is always so bold on the red carpet. Never hiding behind black, never covering up.

She has it, and she’s flaunting it.

You go girl.

I am loving the sparkling details on Lisa Edelstein LBD, which is very sexy.

Terri Seymour, the ex-girlfriend of Simon Cowell, used to always be well groomed on the red carpet.

The black turtleneck dress looks fab on her, because lets face it she has the body to carry it, but the crimped hair is such a big no-no.

I don’t think crimped hair has been cool since the 80s.

Freida Pinto for best dressed! She looks gorgeous!

  2. Daniëlle February 2, 2009 at 11:59 #

I think Michelle Monaghan’s dress is a modified version from Giambattista Valli’s spring collection.

  3. Emma February 2, 2009 at 12:05 #

I was waiting to see who would wear that beautiful Zac Posen dress after you featured it in your review of his runway collection in September. I definitely think Freida Pinto does it justice- she looks beautiful.

It may be just me or the angle, but Amy looks thicker in that dress, specially on the back shot. Virginia Madsen’s dress is nice, but it looks like her hips are breaking the seams open. And you’re totally right, there is something definitely missing on Claire Danes’s dress. I wish she had gone with the Gucci Fall 2008 dress that resembles it

  5. Fashion Critic February 2, 2009 at 12:35 #

I agree, she should have gone for that Gucci dress. I know the one you mean, because that is what I thought it was at first.

  6. Fashion Critic February 2, 2009 at 12:37 #

Thanks Danielle. I am kicking myself for missing that one because that was one of my favourite collections.

Hi, I hope you’ve recovered from yesterday’s incident. I’m pretty sure the dress Amy Adams wore is quite similar to the one Evan Rachel Wood wore to the Critic’s Choice Awards last month. After all, both dresses were designed by Jasmine Di Milo. I prefer Amy’s short-sleeved version. P.S. I know how much you don’t like anonymous posts, but something’s wrong with my goggle account, so until it’s fixed, I’ll have to do it this way.

    Anon 12:12,

Yes I have, like I said I will never mention her again. If I had said something bad about her I would have understood, but I did not.

The comments and death threats – yes death threats – were so nasty. And I think I have to go back to my school days to remember the last time I was called a n***er, so that Disney star will never be spoken about on my blog again.

  9. Anonymous February 2, 2009 at 13:44 #

So sorry, you absolutely don’t deserve that.
But you did the best out of the unpleasant situation, so now we can get back to our main preocupation, and that would be: numerous celebrities strutting their stuff down the red carpet!
I always loved Viola Davis. SUCH a talented woman! Except Kate Winslet, she is the only one who looked literally regal in a Herve Leger.
Claire Danes looks appropriate. I like the embroidery, the lavender eyeshadow, the shiny hair… I mean, she’s rarely a front-runner, she wasn’t nominated, so keeping it quiet seems reasonable. As a whole, I like this look better than her SAG Awards outing, although the red Nina Ricci for itself was far more glam than this one.

freida pinto is definitely best dress. i dun think anyone can top that look.
    omg gorgeous!!!!

  11. ber February 2, 2009 at 13:58 #

Amy Adams is reminding me of Nicole Kidman with that look. I love Claire Danes look as is…a belit would have been too much.

  12. Lila February 2, 2009 at 14:58 #

Yay…Freida Pinto looks Stunning!!!She’s wearing my very favourite dress from the Zaz Posen spring collection and i adore it..not only because it was worn by Lakshmi Menon (which makes the dress earn big points thou, and who kinda reminds me of Freida for her skin tone and hair) but because it’s just so sparkly and beautiful! Thank God she didn’t wear the same earrings as the runway version!
Marisa Tomei’s necklace is so lovely and crimped hair?! What was she thinking?! a little too late for halloween!
Reguarding the comments posted yesterday, i guess, in other posts, i just wanted to say that what happened is just gross. People can be so low, rude and close-minded, it’s unbelievable.
I’m sorry for you, hope it won’t happen ever again!

  13. Ahot February 2, 2009 at 15:08 #

GOOD decision fc! Disney stars are too young for true fashion in my opinion. Oh, by the way Freida is smoking hot, Michelle also

  14. Leo February 2, 2009 at 15:19 #

Claire Danes’ dress is great, but it does lack something there. Maybe if she carried a killer clucth and had done something different to her hair, then it would wow us.

I lobe Rachel Griffiths in that dress, but it makes her boobs look a bit strange, pointing in a weird direction.

And I’m in love with Amy Adams here. Lovely.

  15. Nicole February 2, 2009 at 15:49 #

Yay I’m soo happy u posted freida in this look.. When I first saw it I was sure you would be blown away. The makeup and the shoes are really flawless along with that stunnning dress.
I like Marisa’s necklace a lot she looks great!

  16. Anonymous February 2, 2009 at 16:28 #

I must have missed something – death treats? OMG. Some people take things way too seriously, it’s only fashion we’re talking about, it should be fun.

    Electra.

Top score for Freida. she is absolutely stunning. i also love michelle monaghan and taraji, especially her shoes. who are they by? i think viola’s look is rather dark. terri has a gorgeous body, she looks great, but that hair!
FC praying for a great, stress-free week for you. sorry about all the abuse you suffered. I didn’t even want to mention it again, but i was freshly shocked at what you said you were called.

  18. Fashion Critic February 2, 2009 at 17:04 #

I pray it is stress free too :)

  19. Dana February 2, 2009 at 18:45 #

Hope all is well with you, FC. I admire that you have continued to provide us fashion-lovers with great posts, even with what you have been through. Take some time for yourself, and try to put it behind you. We’re here for you!♥

Anyway, I LOVED Freida Pinto here. She is always beautiful, but something about the dress, the hair, the makeup- it is perfect.
I actually really liked Amy Adams’s dress too. Very classy and unique.

    :)

Am I othe only person who doesn’t understand how Jamine Di Milo’s collection is doing so well? I find her designs,so..underwheliming.

  21. drinkupthefashion February 2, 2009 at 23:14 #

wow. i KNOW freida pinto has to be one of the ladies up for best dressed of the week. it’d be a sin not to include her.

i really don’t think amy adams looks that great. the dress looks too loose, and the shoes are too light of a silver. i think darker silver or pewterish shoes would have worked better.

  22. Fashion Critic February 2, 2009 at 23:56 #

Kisses to all you well wishes. You are too kind xxx

  23. laurakitty February 3, 2009 at 04:57 #

Love, love, love Marisa and Freida! Both of them are so perfect!

  24. Cry February 3, 2009 at 21:23 #

So tired of H.Leger dress… They spread even in the less famous parties.. (http://previews4.wireimage.com/images/preview/56634630cristucci23200931813PM.jpg) Stop, please…

  25. Amélie. March 28, 2009 at 14:04 #

Thank you for this awesome blog. I often visit it.
Just a question, I fell in love with Lisa Edelstein’s earring at the DGAs. Do you know what are they ? I mean (sorry, I’m not english) if it’s Gucci, Dior and everything.
It would be more than nice of you to answer me =)
    Thanks.

  26. Fashion Critic March 28, 2009 at 23:54 #

Hi Amélie. Unfortunately I don’t know anything about jewelery. I mostly only look at dresses.

Sorry I can’t help, but thanks for your message and kind words about my blog.
