Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: January 2009

I never imagined I would see this blue velvet Alexander McQueen Fall 2008 coat, with gold embroidery on the red carpet, but of course it would be Trudie Styler who’d make it happen.

Trudie is not afraid of taking risks. They don’t alway pay off, but I really do like what she has done here.

She looks regal, like a queen without her tiara, but she would have to lose those gold hooped earrings.

When I first saw Kerry Washington in this gold Jasmine di Milo Fall 2007 dress, with the sheer yoke I hated it. But to be honest it has grown on me. There is something quite futuristic and McQueen-esqe about it.

Kerry was safely consistent last year, so it’s nice to see her wear something with a bit of an edge.

The Jasmine di Milo Fall 2007 collection seems like it’s having a bit of a revival. First Rihanna, now Kerry.

She completes her look with a black Mary Norton clutch, with gold detailing.

Demi Moore arrived with her hubby, wearing a stunning silver and black sequined dress, which she wore with the heavenly Christian Louboutin Eugenie satin pumps.

Jessica Alba wore black pants and a black tank, but she brighten up her look with a gold blazer, gold peep-toes, and a gold Jimmy Choo Kase oval clutch.

Marisa Tomei wore a black dress with bronze bubble hem. She completed the look with black tights, pumps and her Fendi Borderline satin clutch.

Shakira wore a strapless royal blue Carolina Herrera gown with black detailing on the side.

Kate Walsh arrived wearing a strapless Missoni floral printed dress, with brown sequined bodice.

Fashion Editors seem to be in love with Victoria Beckham at the moment, as she has appeared on many covers worldwide over the last few months. Most recently Harper’s Bazaar US January 2009.

For this month the fashion designer appears on the cover of Vogue Russia February 2009. I really like this editorial, as it has a bit of an edge, and it’s a lot more creative than the previous shoots she has appeared in.

The downside is that her face it covered in most of the pictures, but she still looks gorgeous.

The shoot was styled by Katie Grand, and Sølve Sundsbø was the photographer.

On her collection: “Forties and 50s underwear played a big influence on the collection, but the inspiration is me.”

“I have tried every one of the dresses on, lived in them, to work out what feels right. I hope the silhouette is what every woman wants to wear.”

Nicola Roberts from UK girl group Girls Aloud arrived at the Graduate Catwalk Show at the V&A Museum in London last night.

The singer has her own make-up range called Dainty Doll, which was specifically made for people with pale skin like herself. I love that fact that the singer is now very comfortable in her skin, and no longer feels the need to apply layers of St Tropez.

I love the nude bodice, and hem of the Richard Nicoll Spring 2009 dress, which blends into her skin. I also love the contrast of colours and the orange draping.

She wore her dress with an ivory and gold detailed Lara Bohinc Tatiana clutch.

Richard Nicoll is very well known for his sleek silk mini dresses and oversized T-shirt dresses in an eye-popping colour-blocking.

Two such dresses appear on Net-A-Porter.com. The 3 colour block dress can be purchased from the US site for $480, and the international site for £255/€338.75.

My favourite is the two tone dress, which can also be purchased from Net-A-Porter’s US site for $755, and the international site for £400/€534.19.

With her head kept warm from the plummeting English temperature in a Prada fur hat, Lily Allen step out wearing jeans, a white vest top, gold ballet pumps and a Chanel Spring 2008 striped jacket.

She was seen popping into Radio 2, The Conran Shop, and USP Content.

It is quite clear that Lily has a love affair with Chanel, as she is always seen either wearing their clothes or carry their bags.

But on this occasion she is carrying a Givenchy Sacca Chain Handle Bag, which you can find on Barneys.com for $1,495.

Love the bag, not so keen on the hat.

It know it was Tom Cruise’s night, as he was promoting his new movie Valkyrie in London last night. But I would have love it if we had got just one photo of Katie Holmes alone, so we could take in the splendor of her Escada Pre-Fall 2009 flapper-esqe cocktail dress.

The black embroidered exquisite dress had ribbon ties on the shoulders, and embellished details all over. The dress exposed her long slender legs, which Katie kept warm in opaque tights, under Givenchy Lace ankle sandals.

And I will say the tights were needed. It was a bitterly cold night in London, so kudos to her for braving the coat for our viewing pleasure.

I am rejoicing at the return of the sleek bob, with the side sweeping bangs. That was always my favourite hairstyle of hers.

Diane Kruger more than did this ivory Giambattista Valli Spring 2009 dress justice, when she attended the Pour Elle Paris Premiere at the Paramount Opera Paris last November.

The German actress wore her dress with ruby red velvet shoes, and her hair was loosely tied back.

Marisa Tomei attended the Creative Coalition’s Inaugural Ball on Tuesday night in Washington, wearing the same dress in black.

Both ladies did me proud, by keeping the skirt true to the presented dress, but I much prefer the ivory dress, so Diane wins for me.
