After the sea of white gowns, Red was another hot colour on the red carpet last night.

I am a big advocate of colour on the red carpet and red is the hardest to pull off. There is a fear that the wearer might blend into the background.

Christina Hendricks, Lisa Edelstein, Diane Lane, Jane Krawoski and Claire Danes, all stood out when they took a risk with this bold colour last night.

Cherry, strawberry and candy apple stole spotlight.

The vibrant background of the 2009 SAG Awards red carpet, allowed these ladies in winter whites to really stand out.

Teri Hatcher, Olivia Wilde, Anne Hathaway, Amy Poehler, Jennifer Morrison and Taraji P. Henson all wore white gowns. Some with twinkling embellishments, some with halters, some with voluminous shapes, and others with clean lines.

What I noticed is that none of these women over accessorized their white gowns. The gowns did all the talking.

My favourite here is Teri Hatcher.

At the Golden Globes it was all about strapless gowns, at the SAG Awards halter gowns ruled the red carpet.

January Jones, Perrey Reeves, Julia Ormond, Diane Lane, Penelope Cruz, Taraji P. Henson, Freida Pinto, Jane Krakowski, Alison Pill and Olivia Wilde all wore haltered gowns in different guises. Some were criss-cross halters, some were embellished.

January Jones’ Andrew GN gown, was by far the most impressive on the night.

I was sent a message from a reader who said I was wrong to say that Angelina Jolie’s dress was backwards to how it was presented on the runway. I’m sorry to say it, but I still do believe I’m right.

The dress has the same kimono style sleeves, the same deep-plunge, the same gathered elasticated waisted line, the two flaps on either side of the plunge, and the same detail on the skirt.

Angelina was never going to wear a dress with such a deep plunge, so wearing it back to front was her compromise.

These two dresses, which I was told were the same, are not the same in my opinion. Not even close.

I don’t even think the materials are the same. The sleeves are definitely not the same, and this runway dress does not have an elasticated waist.

Judge for yourself.

UPDATE: Thanks to DolceLorenzo, who watched Fashion Wrap Up were Jennifer Rade – Angelina’s stylist – confirmed that she did wear the dress back to front.
