Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: January 2009

January Jones was by far the best dressed at this event. I love this girl, she is fearless on the red carpet, and never plays it safe.

The actress wore a strapless pink beaded Elie Saab Fall 2008 Couture dress, which was not only a great fit, but was also a fantastic colour for her.

She matched her make-up to her dress, and her silver Jimmy Choo peep-toes to her jewelry, in what has to be one of her best looks.

Definitely up for Best Dressed this week.

The gorgeous Freida Pinto looked superb wearing a nude draped Donna Karan Resort 2009 gown, with a gold sparkling Leiber clutch.

Her make-up was flawless.

Taraji P. Henson is very much one to take notice of, as she has been making a lot of great choices on the red carpet lately.

For this event she wore a gorgeous black and white print Angel Sanchez Spring 2009 dress which had a large black sash folded across the front of her dress.

She wore black pumps with it and a red satin clutch to complete her look.

The forever elegant Laura Linney wore a black one-shouldered Michael Kors belted dress.

She completed the look with black strappy sandals, and gold accessories.

I was not at all enamored by Natalie Portman’s look.

She wore a semi-transparent blue dress with a pink sash tied to the waist, with black heels and a bronze clutch.

I remember a time when Catherine Zeta-Jones used to wow me every time she stepped onto the red carpet. Now she just kinda blends in with everyone else.

The Welsh actress joined her hubby Michael Douglas on the red carpet wearing a Monique Lhuillier one-shouldered draped dress, and gold t-bar Sergio Rossi heels.

Debra Messing this time kept things simple wearing a black longs sleeved dress which had a bow detail on the front and embellished cuffs.

She continued the simple look with black patent pumps.

Last week Kate Winslet was presented with The Montecito Award during the 24th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The British actress wore a black and white Narciso Rodriguez sleeveless wool dress for this occasion, with Christian Louboutin peep-toes and Chopard jewels.

She completed her look with a loose updo, and minimal make-up.

This powerfully sharp body-hugging shift dress is currently available to purchase from Net-A-Porter’s US site for $1,800, and the international site for £836.81/€1,113.96.

Dita von Teese is picture perfect wearing a head to toe grey look.

The burlesque beauty wore a Dior belted shirt dress, which would have looked very much like a nurses uniform, had it not been for the embellished details on the shoulders.

She partnered her look with a large floral hair accessory, and snake-skin lace up Christian Louboutin heels.

Lollipop head aside, I do love this Amy Whinehouse-inspired beehhive look Mischa Barton is sporting.

Unlike some occasions, Mischa made a real effort, wearing a strapless yellow Christian Dior Spring 2009 dress, which was fringed and embellished with seashells and beads.

She completed her look with African fertility goddess figurine heels from the same Dior Spring 2009 collection.

I am imagining things? Mischa has lost a lot of weight, no?

Since her Oscar win, Marion Cotillard has not been seen much on the red carpet, nor outside her native country.

These days her look tends to be dark colours, and coats that cover up her ensemble. The only distinctive thing here is her Lady Dior ‘Cannage’ bag.

Straight after the SAG Awards red carpet comes the next big event, Haute Couture Fashion Week, for the Spring 2009 presentations this week.

Christian Dior was the first big designer to show yesterday. There was talk of the recession, credit crunch and economic crisis putting a dampener on the Couture shows. It looks like John Galliano, was not paying attention. Instead he focused on what he does best at – creating exquisite gowns.

It’s clear that one of the inspirations of this collection was blue and white Chinese porcelain, as the distinctive print adorned many gowns.

Blacks and white, Cornflower yellows, tulip reds, powder blues, and sherbet oranges were served up on the colour palette.

My favourite pieces were those that had tight bodices that clinched in the waist, then exploded into voluminous full skirts. Lets hope they stay that way when Theron, von Teese and Mendes walk the red carpet in them.

Bouffant sleeves were featured heavily, rounding off the shoulders, but it was not all about volume. Pencil skirts and narrow gowns provided a slinkier silhouette.

There was surprisingly a lot of black and white in this collection, but fear not, it looks like the Couture shows will be just as fabulous as ever.

I want to start off by saying that this black strapless Louis Vuitton Fall 2008 dress with a tulle cape, looked much better on the runway, than when worn by stylist June Ambrose, and actress Juliette Lewis. But both ladies did their best to do it justice.

June wore the dress when she attended the 3rd Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards in New York back in November, with YSL Trib Two heels.

Juliette arrived at the British Comedy Awards 2008 last month in London, wearing the same dress with a red snake skin clutch, black heels, and a red and gold hair accessory.

The normally daring Juliette would have been able to rock the runway hat, but as she didn’t, so I will give this one to June.
