Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: January 2009

After the Georges Chakra show, I introduced myself to Queen Latifah, who has to be one of the most gracious, interesting and engaging celebrity I have ever met.

Queen Latifah wore a stunning Pamella Roland gown, when she took to the stage at the BET Honors event last week.

Regular reader Robbie said, “Queen Latifah’s dress looks so much better on her than the model.”

I told Queen Latifah this, and she was genuinely pleased, clenching her fist and exclaiming “YES”, which was so cute.

I asked her if she would wear any of the designs she was seen at the runway show. “Why not? the clothes are fun and interesting, and he (Georges Chakra) would make them especially for me,” she said. Lucky girl.

She then informed me that she has first been introduced to Mr Chakra when he designed the stunning purple gown she wore to the People’s Choice Awards (above) this year, and since then she has been in love with his work.

I then told her that I admired her for always wearing such vibrant colours, and not sticking to safe black like Jennifer Aniston, she said “It’s nice to take risks and be adventurous, but sometimes they don’t always pay off. Cate Blanchett is one of those stars who can wear anything on the red carpet, and it’s interesting and edgy, and she always looks amazing.”

At this point I felt we were bonding over our mutual love to Cate Blanchett. How amazing that even Cate’s peers think she is fierce on the red carpet.

I also spoke to Queen Latifah’s stylist Timothy Snell, who also works with Whitney, and he told me that, Whitney can wear straight off the runway, whereas for Queen Latifah, the gowns have to be custom-made.

This I think is great for Queen Latifah, as she has less chance of appearing on a Who Wore It Better? Poll.

He then went onto say that for Queen Latifah there is a lot of pre-planning involved because of the customizations and modifications when it comes to her wardrobe. He is already planning for the Grammy’s, and she is possibly attending the Oscars.

Wearing Georges Chakra? We’ll have to wait and see.

A fresh faced Vanessa Hudgens was spotted at LAX on Saturday en route to Toyko.

Vanessa was not alone, she also traveled with her boyfriend Zac Efron, as the two are due to promote High School Musical 3: Senior Year in Asia.

The Disney star looked very relaxed – quite the opposite to whenever I’m at an airport – wearing a tan leather jacket, skinny jeans, a black bag, black suede knee-high boots, and a Lauren Moshi Peace Girl Long Sleeve Swing Tee ($120).

The fun and flowy swing tee, has a 60′s motif including peace symbols and hippies. But if long sleeve tees aren’t your thing, then you can purchase the Lauren Moshi Peace Girl print in a Tank ($74), a Swing Pocket tank ($132), or a classic short sleeved tee ($92), from Revolve Clothing.

Lauren Moshi tees can be purchased in the UK from BunnyHug.co.uk

Kate Walsh and Julia Ormond have both worn this navy Azzaro gown, with a jeweled halter neck, and a jeweled detailed on the hip.

Kate wore it when she attended the NAACP Image Awards in February last year, and Julia wore the same dress when she attended the SAG Awards on Sunday night.

“It’s Not The Same Gown?” I hear you cry.

Well it is the same gown, but Julia wore the dress as a halter, whereas Kate wore it as a one-shouldered gown.

This one was so close to going under the WWIB? radar.

I love that Julia made this gown her own, but as a one-shouldered gown, I feel like I can see more of the gown, especially the hip detail, so Kate wins this for me.

After scheduling enough blog posts so you would not think I abandoned you, I excitedly made my way to Paris this morning.

Upon arrival, my first stop was the Georges Chakra show.

Georges Chakra has a huge presence on the red carpet with stars such as Carrie Underwood (she’s a big fan), Mischa Barton, Christina Milian, Amerie, Kerry Washington and most recently Queen Latifah – who was a guest at the show – but more on her later.

You can click here to see celebs on the red carpet wearing Georges Chakra.

Georges Chakra would have pleased his clientèle with his Spring 2009 Haute Couture collection, because it was simply breath-taking.

The colour palette was a wondrous mix of nudes, pretty pinks, vivid yellows, whites, vibrant violets, black and prints.

What may not be evident in my pictures, are the intricate details of swirling shapes, ruffles, beads, paillettes, and fans. These details were presented on cute strapless cocktail tutu’s dresses, gowns, and pant ensembles. Each one was more flouncy, fluffy and embellished than the next.

Apart from the drool-worthy gowns, I was very taken by a clear PVC pajama set, which had an explosion of gold floral details. It also has gold embellishments on the trim of the lapels, and a tan sash tied to the waist.

The highlight came at the end, when the model wearing a stunning bridal gown, removed her large skirt, to reveal a shorter skirt underneath.

For my first couture, show it was one magnificent collection.

I also attended the Christian Lacroix and Givenchy shows, but I will tease you with that for tomorrow. Out of the 3, this was by far my favourite show.

There is more to come from Mr Chakra. On February 14th, he will premiere his first ready to wear collection in New York.

Heidi Montag is perhaps the only star from The Hills who does not get sent free stuff, so what you see her wearing, she has brought.

I haven’t agreed with a lot of her choices, but I do like her black Chanel blazer and her Sigerson Morrison Gladiator boots.

She wore these boots on a night out with her husband, Spencer Pratt over the weekend, when the couple attended the Affliction “Day of Reckoning” MMA fight in LA.

The open-toe gladiator boots, with a 3.75in heel by Sigerson Morrison have a tribal feel to them, with thin leather strips held together by cording.

I found these boots on Zappos.com for $1,694.

The Sigerson Morrison website is currently under construction, but it list the stockists.

This style of boot also comes in a Leather wedge ankle boot (£543/€670.98), and a flat knee-high boot ($1,498).

Leighton Meester attended a party to launch her Nylon Mexico cover in Mexico city this weekend.

The Gossip Girl actress wore a black Preen Spring 2009 dress, which had a lace-up detail on the yoke, and a sheer overlay.

She completed the look with black strappy heels, a sparkling black clutch, and bold red lips.

I love the dress, but I wish Leighton had done something different with her hair. The hair is so conservative with such an sexy edgy dress.
