Runway To ‘Diva’ Video - Beyonce In Gareth Pugh

Over the holiday period you may have seen that Beyonce’s new video Diva was premiered.

What you may have also noticed is that most of her wardrobe in the video was created by the futuristic designer Gareth Pugh.

Beyonce first surprised us all wearing Gareth Pugh when she performed at MTV’s EMAs last month. She gained a lot of kudos for her 2 looks that night, so it is not surprise that Beyonce and her dancers performed in a wide selection of Gareth Pugh pieces from his Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 collection for her new video.

Her looks include towering black and white platforms, a plastic appliquÃ© waterfall jacket, a leather fencing jacket with contrasting armour plates on each arm.

What I want to know is how does she dance in such structured ensembles?

Wearing endless outfits designed by Gareth Pugh does not an edgy fashionista make.

Her efforts to be cutting edge are contrived.

I really love her new look, she surprised me and her new album it’s great too. Maybe it’s too soon to say but she actually deserved the ” One to watch” title don’t you think ?

I’m not buying it also. Plus this does not fit her style much.

One thing had to be said, it’s great to see Pugh get more attention. He’s such an incredible designer, his collections are fantastic.

Beyonce will never be known as being fashion forward, but she has to be congratulated for trying in Gareth Pugh. But I suppose someone better check Kylie, J-Lo or Madonna haven’t styled one of their previous videos a la Gareth Pugh as that would explain her choice.

horrid, really cant stand her style, but this just takes the biscuit, she looks stupid, his designs really dont suit her. her “edgy” style is just far too, his designs should really just be worn by roisin murphy, it suits her much much more.

im shocked she didnt wear the same dress kylie (my queen) minogue wore.

Beyonce can’t win. People were tired of the glam/sequined looks. She gives them something different, and they now want her to go back.

Give the girl credit, I think Gareth pieces are more art than anything else and if some1 can make it wearable KUDOS! When i saw Rosin Murphy in it, i just tot oo interesting, but Bey gave it life, turned it to an actually garment!

Hate does shades at the beginning of the vid, and oo Ciara has her own version

I find it hilarious that people are quick to point to Beyonce “stealing” from Kylie but similar attention is not paid to Kylie’s theft from Madonna. I mean come on! I had to do a double take of the in my arms video to figure out whether it was Madonna or Kylie. Also, has anyone noticed that Britney Spears has totally co-opted Madonna’s tour costume in her Circus video?

First of all Happy New Year. Here’s to another fun year of fashion and the red carpet!

Something to look forward to, Beyonce’s stylist Ty Hunter has confirmed that she will wear more Pugh Gareth and it has also been confirmed that Thierry Mugler will be the creative director and do all the costumes for her new tour. Also in the video clip she wears a modified lace bodysuit (the scene with the light rod) from young up an coming designer Brian Lictenberg’s latest collection.

And you’re gonna love this, the reason she found out about Pugh’s work is because Solange saw the collection in Paris and raved about it to Beyonce.

That video was a hot ghetto mess….. She is tryin' too hard to fit into Jay-Z's Hip-Hop lexicon when she should just focus on doin' R&B… because the Hip-Hop audience will never accept her…..

As for the fashions…. I did notice the Gareth Pugh clothes….. one item I did like in particular were the Casadei boots she wore in the openin' scene….. but those glasses looked hideous…… I really hope no one attempts to wear those things like those Kanye or should I say Sho' Nuff from The Last Dragon blinds glasses……

I saw Diva first because I’m a HUGE Bey fan, but then I have a podcast from style.com with Gareth Pugh’s ss 09 show and I was like “wha–? was Beyonce wearing Gareth Pugh??” I thought it was ohot and she was beautiful!

Dont get me wrong, I think Beyonce is very talented and, while I dont want to agree with forums that refer to her as a copycat, I find it really interesting that just after Lad Gaga gets Mugler to do costumes for her, Beyonce also gets him to do her costumes and makes him sign a deal saying that he will no longer work with other artists during the running of her tour. Seems a little sneaky to me…

It’s just plain pathetic that her stylists are putting her in these outfits! They obviously have no idea what Gareth Pugh’s style stands for… Trust me, I am a fashion designer and I know that those outfits were not meant for someone like freaking BeyoncÃ©!

The use of Gareth Pugh by Beyonce is a wise choice for the diva concept video. i think the essence of the Pugh shapes and shillouettes represent someone who is strong and confident and also the pieces do suit the concept behind the song, so as a whole package the wardrobe for the video does do the song justice and vice versa, and for the designer who thinks Pughs designs are not for people like Beyonce I wonder who he/she thinks the ideal customer is .
