November 5th, 2008

Normally I don’t post hunches, but there is no denying the similarities in this Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2009 dress, and what I believe is the modified version.

Michelle Obama wore a black cropped cardigan over her black and red ombre dress which had a criss cross black satin detail cross her waist - which is very much a Narciso Rodriguez trademark - when it was confirmed that her husband was indeed the President of the United States of America, at a gathering in Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois.

In fact I am going to stand by my hunch and say this is a Narcsio Rodriguez dress. I will be happy to come back say I am wrong, if proved so later today.

Update: Wooohoo. My hunch was right.

I was blown away by Michelle’s dress when watching Obama’s speech yesterday, wondering who the designer is. And I knew that I just had to wait a few hours, that when I woke up this morning you would already have posted the specifics! Wow, I hope there comes a less expensive similar (albeit not the same, I hate firms blatantly copying) dress inspired from this Narciso Rodriguez. Kind regards, and thanks much for the update!

An imitation or not.It doesn’t look good on her..

She should’ve choosed something else to wear. Other dresses that she wore were nice on her. But, this one, not a great choice..

It was a historic night and future First Lady Obama should have taken that into consideration. Three criteria should guide her clothing selections from here out: does the option reflect a current aesthetic, does it look good, and does it look good on Michelle Obama.

Although last night’s dress was fresh, and a good looking dress, it was not a flattering look on her.

Who cares about a dress on such a nyt! Gosh guys! She looked beautiful but I doubt whether the dress flattered her was what she was thinking yesterday! It was make or break time!

I’ve been wondering who she was wearing (and which designer was going to happily reap the benefits). Thanks for being the first person I’ve read with this info!

They went for a theme which was good…however Barack was the ONLY one that looked good…his satin brushed suit was nice…the tie was a little christmas-y but whatever….but his tie was BURGANDY/MAROON/BRICK RED not fire engine red…Michelle’s satin 1985 graphic splash dress was a gross redesign of the original (even if the original guy redesigned it he did a poor job). the girls looked like they were in cheap holiday dresses from sears…i know they are just kids but come on this is the BIGGEST night in your daddy’s life, one of the BIGGEST nights in our countries history and that’s the photo! Kohl’s is inexpensive and has better styles…but seriously i felt like someone should have reviewed their choices

You are very welcome WendyB. I do try :)

Anonymous, I think you are being a tad harsh. You are very much entitled to your opinions, but the stuff about the kids was below the belt.

LOVE this post. I was racking my brain looking for it and wondering who it was buy, it looked a bit misshapen on her at first but seeing it here makes it appear a little better on and plus she was moving about, so that made it shift. LOVE that I found this blog and I’ll be putting it on my blogroll immediately on my blog.

out of 10 I give that dress on her a 5. I honestly thought she was pregnant. from the side it made her seem wide. the colours were wrong for the stage which was a bit dark as well and made her blend with the background. no, sthis one’s a fail.

AM I the only one that thinks the dress looked like a Black Widow halloween costume?

When she walked out, my husband commented that she looked like spiderman on Halloween. What an incredibly poor choice. Jill Biden looked much more First Lady.

So I’m curious to know, how much does this dress cost? Since she was bagging on the other lady (Palin) for wearing expensive clothes…

  26. Jennifer says:

The dress hasn’t even been released in stores yet, so I’m guessing it was loaned to her.

now the question is if you like the dress on Michelle Obama or not…

  28. jen says:

gosh, is it really necessary to critique a child’s clothing? i know they are now the first family but irregardless of fame or status, they are CHILDREN! i don’t give a hoot if they looked like they were dress from sears, they look happy and that should be of more importance!

if you are an adult in the public eye, then OK but speaking negatively about young children… i’m pretty sure this is how emotional and psychological disorders start.

p.s FC you have an amazing eye!

I thought Mrs. Obama’s dress was very classy and it looked very elegant on her. The dress fits her personality and added pizzazz to the platform as she stood with her lovely family.
